Metz: 50 years of German occupation from 1870 to 1918. The Museum of the War of 1870 and Annexation tells the history of the Mosellans from the beginning of the war 1870 until the Treaty of Versailles at the end of the 1st World War. It traces the impact of war through its collection of more than 600 objects, but also through paintings, sculptures, testimonies, uniforms and archives. We find through this museum the impact of clashes Gravelotte between the Germans, rallied to Prussia, and the French. The fighting is violent and measurable: 32,000 people have lost their lives, have been injured or have disappeared ... The expression "it falls like Gravelotte" marks the extent of the losses and violence of the fighting that have marked many mind.
